The City of Ashland is accepting applications for the position of ENGINEERING SUPERINTENDENT ASSISTANT
Engineering Department
Supervisor: City Engineer
Grade: 13
Salary Range: $75K to $80K commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Class Characteristics: Performs difficult work planning, organizing, and directing various civil work for the Engineering department including the erosion control and stormwater management program, project and contract development, construction management and quality control practices, while providing technical assistance to all divisions of the city. Performs related work as apparent or assigned.
General Duties and Responsibilities: Develops cost estimates, contract, and bid documents for the city for various civil work projects including water line replacements, water line extensions, sidewalk replacements, drainage projects, sidewalk grinding, utility patches, and other projects. Provides technical assistance to different divisions of the city by performing survey work, grade and slope calculations, and AutoCAD drawings as needed by departments. Attends meetings regarding various city engineering projects, transportation engineering-related issues, preconstruction, construction progress, and general staff topics. Responds to landowner and business owner complaints and provide engineering solutions as needed. Manages all aspects of the erosion control and stormwater management program within the city including but not limited to erosion control permitting and inspection, public involvement and outreach, contractor inspection and management. Performs engineering design calculations for utility line extensions, survey data collected, and general drainage and sewer grade projects. Collects field data for the development of engineering and GIS projects, while organizing and analyzing the information. Performs AutoCAD work to develop preliminary design ideas, update changes in plans, provide an overview of project concepts, and to collect project quantity takeoffs and material estimates. Manages the erosion control, building permit, and major/minor subdivision review processes for the division. Plans City infrastructure projects utilizing other departmental personnel for new construction. Provides technical and operational assistance to supervisors and superintendents on construction projects executed by City Engineer Public Services & Utility Operations employees and contractors. Reviews submitted applications for the Board of Zoning Adjustment, Ashland Planning Commission, and Board of Commissioners. Manages and monitors the professional development of all division employees. Plans City infrastructure projects utilizing other departmental personnel for new construction. Provides technical and operational assistance to supervisors and superintendents on construction projects executed by City Engineer Public Services & Utility Operations employees and contractors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and minimal experience in Civil Engineering required.
Certification/Licensing Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must attain National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Erosion Protection and Sediment Control certifications and Kentucky Erosion and Sediment Control Technician within first year of employment. Overtime Provision: Exempt.
