2020 KRWA Annual Conference and Exhibition Cancelled
2020 KRWA Annual Conference and Exhibition Cancelled
A Message to our Members,
The Board of Directors of Kentucky Rural Water Association has decided to cancel the 2020 KRWA Annual Conference and Exhibition scheduled for August 24-26 in Louisville at the Galt House Hotel. This was a difficult decision in these unprecedented times dealing with the effects of COVID-19. The decision to cancel centered on protecting our members’ physical and economic health. A lot of the board discussions dealt with the financial hardships that utilities are already facing with reduced revenue streams over the past few months and no idea of what future months may look like.
The uncertainties surrounding the logistics of hosting an annual conference with attendance of over 800 people in our exhibit hall and 250+ people in general sessions and at meal functions led the board to make the tough call for cancellation. As of now, gatherings are severely limited in Kentucky and we have no idea whether or when those restrictions will be lifted.
KRWA is required by its bylaws to conduct an annual business meeting and we will accomplish this requirement either with an in-person meeting or through a virtual meeting through Zoom, or some other on-line meeting platform. If you are familiar with our business meetings you know that our year is summarized in reports on KRWA training and technical assistance efforts, other association programs and projects, and overall financial performance measures. Also, board elections are conducted. At the conclusion of the membership meeting, the newly elected board convenes and elects its officers for the coming year.
We are also considering offering additional on-site or on-line training in conjunction with our annual business meeting. As the staff continues to work out the logistics of the KRWA Annual Business Meeting and other possible training opportunities, we will keep the membership informed as to our plans.
Thank you for your membership and understanding during these times. Please know that we always try to make decisions in the best interests of our members and their people! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or anyone else at the KRWA office.
Gary Larimore, Executive Director
