Kentucky Rural Water (KRWA) Apprenticeship Program
POSITION:  Apprentice—Systems Operations Specialist
SCHEDULE:  Full-time
LOCATION: Sturgis, KY

DESCRIPTION:
KRWA has exciting and rewarding Apprenticeship opportunities available.  Earn while you learn!
The KRWA Apprenticeship Program offers two occupations:  Water Systems Operations Specialist and Wastewater Systems Operations Specialist.  Operations Specialists are the men and women who sustain our communities by operating drinking water and wastewater utilities.  Water and Wastewater Operations Specialists ensure the quality of Kentucky's water resources and protect public health, providing critical services to their communities.

Our program requires 4,000 hours of paid On-the-Job Training (approximately 2 years) along with 288 hours of related technical instruction.  KRWA acts as the program sponsor and administrator.  Once an apprentice is matched with a utility, they will be assigned a mentor. They will work alongside this experienced technician for the duration of the program, and they will receive a well-rounded, holistic technical education.

Apprentices will be required to complete the identified on-the-job training and related technical instruction requirements AND must pass the Class certification level required by the State of Kentucky prior to program completion.  Completion of the KRWA Apprenticeship Program will result in at least one water or wastewater operator certification and a nationally recognized Registered Apprenticeship credential from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Some of the skills and knowledge to be gained from this program include:
• Water/wastewater system operations and maintenance
• Sample collection and reporting for Water/Wastewater regulatory compliance
