KRWA Circuit Rider Nathan Gassaway Assists City of Sturgis in Resolving Main Street Leak
Circuit Rider, Nathan Gassaway, recently responded to a request for assistance from the City of Sturgis. Sturgis, serving over 1100 water customers, discovered a major leak on Main Street. Understanding the urgency of the situation, Nathan worked quickly to help pinpoint the exact location of the leak while minimizing damage to the roadway. After taking a closer look, a previously unknown six-inch ductile iron line was found.
Once the leak's location was confirmed, the utility promptly initiated the necessary repairs, preventing an estimated water loss of approximately 60 gallons per minute. The significance of this repair cannot be overstated, as it resulted in an estimated savings of roughly $10,000 for the City of Sturgis. Such financial savings and preservation of water resources greatly contribute to the sustainability of a city's water operations.
