The City of Ashland is accepting applications for the position of METER SERVICES WORKER
Utilities Department, Water Distribution/Meter Services Division

Supervises: None
Beginning Salary: $22.070-$30.900/ hour


Class Characteristics: Performs intermediate work maintaining water meters and related equipment for a designated portion of the service area. Maintaining water serves as directed. Performs related work as apparent or assigned.


General Duties and Responsibilities: Turns water on and off in cases of moving, delinquency, and repairs. Assists with necessary documentation and reports. Picks up work orders daily and completes in a timely manner. Checks meters to ensure proper working order; repairs or replaces faulty meters; changes rings, lids, curb boxes and curb box lids. Assists with reading meters including missed or inconsistent readings. Locates water lines and checks for leaks; collects water samples for testing. Maintains water meters and related equipment for a designated area; locates and preserves meter lid/box; raises meter lids and rings to ground level. Meets with citizens as requested and examines meters to check working condition and inspects visible plumbing and other related tasks. Maintains water meters and related equipment for a designated area. Maintains assigned vehicle and tools in proper working conditions. Responds to emergency callouts after hours. Posts notices at physical locations regarding to billing, customer info or other necessary communications. Ensures proper inventory of meter related equipment and parts/tools.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and considerable experience.
Certification/Licensing Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment in this class. Class I – IV Water Distribution Certification desired, but not required. Class B CDL is desired, but not required.
Availability Requirement: Must be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at any time.
