Utilities Department, Water Distribution/Meter Services Division

Grade: 104, 106, 108, or 109
Beginning Salary: $12.487- $18.444/ hour
Class Characteristics: Under supervision, performs skilled, semi-skilled, and manual labor work activities in the construction, maintenance and cleanliness of water distribution system and new services; performs related work as required.
General Duties and Responsibilities: Assists in the construction, maintenance and cleanliness of water distribution systems. Lays lines, maps lines, washes sewer lines, etc. Operates vehicles and motorized equipment safely and efficiently; Class I drives light and medium trucks; higher Classes may operate heavy equipment. Detects malfunctions in equipment and makes minor repairs or recommendations for major repairs. Assists in the maintenance and cleaning of buildings and other miscellaneous maintenance work. May assist other divisions/departments in construction and maintenance duties. Reads water meters on assigned route, records readings. Checks for leaks and ensures proper functioning of meters and may assist in repairing and/or replacing meters. May turn water on or off as directed. Accepts requests/complaints from customers and attends to their disposition or forwards to higher authority. May assist in locating water leaks with leak detection equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by one (1) year related work experience for Class I; higher classes must be supplemented by work experience and/or education acceptable by the Kentucky Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet to have obtained a Water Distribution License in the matching class for which applying.
Certification/Licensing Requirements: Class I must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license and must obtain a valid commercial drivers’ license (CDL) prior to completion of original probation and maintain thereafter as a condition of continued employment in the class. Classes II, III, and IV must possess and maintain a CDL. Each Class must obtain next higher Class Water Distribution License within one (1) year after meeting experience requirements as a condition of continued employment, up to Class IV.
Availability Requirement: Must be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at any time.
