Job Description

Montgomery County Sanitation District #2 is seeking applications for the position of Plant Operator (Class II Treatment Operator and Class II Collection Operator certifications required). The Plant Operator is responsible for the entire operation and regulatory compliance of the Sanitation District. Under minimal direction and supervision, the Plant Operator leads the operations of the rural sewer utility to provide the approximately 700 customers with reliable sewer service in the areas of Camargo and Jeffersonville, in Montgomery County; provides professional and technical assistance to the Board of Commissioners; and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements. The Sanitation District’s infrastructure includes: a 0.280 MGD lagoon style treatment plant, 20 lift stations, and approximately 19 miles of collection lines.

Duties include but are not limited to: directing, administering, and coordinating all operational, engineering, construction, and financial activities of the Sanitation District’s operation within the scope delegated by the Board of Commissioners. This includes significant field and administrative responsibilities, responding to emergency situations, community involvement, and public relations; operating the treatment plant; performing routine, corrective, and preventive maintenance and inspection of the treatment plant, lift stations, and collection sewer lines; mowing and trimming at the treatment plant and lift station locations; performing custodial duties at the treatment plant. The operator will have a standard 40-hour work week but must be available for extended hours and during emergencies. Must be organized and able to document and maintain records to submit appropriate documentation to the State to ensure regulatory compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess a high school diploma or GED, be in good physical condition, capable of working extended hours, evenings, and holidays. Valid driver’s license and basic computer skills are required. Compensation is based on experience.
